The real Ford Escort RS1800 arrived during the 1970s as the high-performance evolution of the Mk II Escort. Developed with motorsport firmly in mind, the road-going RS1800 used a Cosworth-developed 1.8-litre twin-cam 16-valve engine, while competition versions became formidable Group 4 rally machines. Escort RS models achieved major international rally success and became closely associated with some of the era’s greatest drivers, helping establish the Mk II Escort as one of the most iconic rally cars ever built. Its lightweight rear-wheel-drive layout, simple engineering and huge competition pedigree have made surviving RS1800s especially desirable today.
