The real event was held to celebrate the opening of the new Nürburgring Grand Prix circuit in May 1984, bringing together an exceptional field of international racing drivers in identical Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.3-16 cars. Senna drove car #11 and took victory ahead of Niki Lauda, producing one of the most famous early performances of his career before becoming a three-time Formula One World Champion.

The Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.3-16 itself was the high-performance 16-valve version of the W201, developed with a Cosworth-designed cylinder head and created with motorsport firmly in mind. MINI GT recreates Senna’s clean silver #11 race car with period-correct competition details, SENNA branding and the distinctive styling of the original 190 E.
